Hi! I’m Rachel Poulin. Let Me Repeat Myself is my lettering and surface pattern design studio.
I’m a Los Angeles based artist and graphic designer turned lettering artist and surface pattern designer. I looove weird hand lettering, high-contrast line art, maximalism, vibrant colors, retro styling, and exploring the idea that letters and messages can be their own unique textures. I have a strong sense of negative space and balance and love it when design elements fit together organically like puzzle pieces; something I bring into both my lettering and graphic patterns.
Originally an art kid from Maine, I got my BFA in graphic design from the Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as an additional associates degree in art and illustration. When I’m not working on LMRM in my free time, you can find me painting (@colorexploder), lettering reality tv quotes (@bravoletterities) or horror movie titles (I love my sketchbook time!), cooking and baking fructose-friendly food (@frucyoufructose), reorganizing my workspace (seen here), working on apartment decorating projects, making gifts for friends and family (see last spread, putting together design-y Legos and watching movies (typewriter on the right in this photo!), or hanging with my rescue pug Birdie!
Through my 15+ year corporate career, I’ve been able to work on an incredibly wide variety of projects on both agency-side and in-house teams as a graphic designer, art director, and illustrator. While my true passion now lies in the LMRM work you see here, the time I’ve spent working in and designing for brands in fashion and tech (among others) was incredibly valuable.
I gained a lot of experience in areas like branding, iconography and infographics, event and marketing collateral, print production, presentation design, templates, and collaborating in a corporate environment in general. While I knew I loved information design and organization, I also came to learn that I found something satisfying about elevating a simple design (like a map or presentation), or making detailed print specs that were clear and thorough - thanks ADHD!
